Background Information

On May 29, 2016, Bono joined Bruce Springsteen on stage at Croke Park in Dublin Ireland. The two sang “Because the Night”, a song that Bruce Springsteen had developed, but Patti Smith later finished and released. Both The Edge and Larry Mullen were in attendance at the show but only Bono joined The Boss on stage. This was the second stop of The River Tour at Croke Park. For the tour, Springsteen had partnered with a company to release live versions of every show on the tour. These were released in a variety of formats through Brucespringsteen.net:

  • mp3 ($9.95US) – 256 kbps
  • Lossless ($12.95US) – 44.1 kHz, 16 bit stereo, ALAC or FLAC format
  • HD-Audio ($19.95US) – 24 bit / 48 kHz, ALAC or FLAC format
  • DSD ($39.95US)
  • CD ($23.00US)
  • CD + mp3 ($28.00US)

From the website description, “CDs are professionally printed and duplicated on the highest quality CDRs and packaged in cardboard slipcases with custom artwork including the track listing.” This Dublin date with Bono was released for purchase on July 13, 2016, and does contain the track on which Bono sings. Digital formats were made available to download that day. The shows were initially made available for pre-order at this location.

NME Magazine reporting on these shows, incorrectly reported that these releases will only be available for one week and then will no longer be available. This is incorrect. The company doing these releases has confirmed for that there is one concert being released per week, but once released they will be available with no limitations as long as they are working with Springsteen and he wants to continue to sell these concerts.

You can hear the introduction of Bono to the crowd at the end of “Waiting on a Sunny Day” at the end of the second disc, where Springsteen announces “My God Dublin has talent! We’ve got another local lad that’s going to help us out right now! Come on up man! Bonoooooooooo!” but we do not hear Bono on the track. Bono comes in on the first track on disc three, “Because the Night.”
