Background Information

The film “Burma Soldier” was a documentary by filmmaker Nic Dunlop and documentarians Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern. The film was an exploration of Myo Myint Cho, who joined the Burmese army at the young age of 17, and after an injury which took a limb eventually joined the pro-democracy movement in that country. The film was narrated by Colin Farrell, and the film was shown on HBO.

The soundtrack of the film was performed by American, Paul Brill. The songs are all instrumental, except for the two mixes of U2’s “Walk On”. The two mixes of “Walk On” contain the same vocal by Bono, which is a newly recorded vocal of the track, and Brill recorded a string quartet at Avatar Studio G in New York to accompany the acoustic version of the U2 song. The song was mixed and produced by Robert L. Smith.

The soundtrack was released through the website http://paulbrill.bandcamp.com/ and while the entire soundtrack was placed on sale, the two tracks with U2 were free. These could be downloaded in a variety of formats including FLAC (Stereo, 24 bits, 48000 Hz), AAC (Stereo, 154 kbs, 44100 Hz), ALAC (Stereo, 16 bits per sample, 1536kbps, 48000 Hz), Ogg Vorbis (Stereo, 192kbps, 48000Hz) and MP3 (Both Stereo, 320kbps, 44100Hz, as well as Stereo, Variable bit Rate, 44100Hz).

The vocal track used is a newly recorded version and includes a small snippet of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” which Bono had included throughout the U2360 tour. The film was the winner of the 2011 UN Film Festival Award, and was nominated for Best Documentary at the Irish Academy Awards.
