New Spotify Playlists: U2 Best Of and U2 Complete
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2017-01-16)
U2 has two new “playlists” on Spotify, uploaded by user, u2_interscope. They appear to be created by Interscope to spotlight the band while currently promoting the Joshua Tree 2017 Tour. The link to these playlists was recently included in an email sent by U2.com announcing a second set of shows for some European cities. The first playlist is called U2 Best Of and features 30 tracks, mostly hits of the band. The second playlist is called U2 Complete and features 309 tracks, including a wide variety of album tracks and more.
The tracks making up the songs on U2 Best Of include many album cuts, most taken from the remastered albums. There are 30 songs in total. There is a definite slant here towards songs from early in their career and material from the most recent album. The lone B-Side creeping in here is the original version of “Sweetest Thing” which is used instead of the more recent 1998 Single Mix.
U2 Complete is the second collection. It features 309 tracks, including the live tracks taken from 2005 Live from Milan (released as part of the U218 Deluxe Edition, Live from Paris 1987 and it contains most of the tracks from the first and second discs released as part of the remasters project from 2007 – 2011 as well as album tracks from the albums that have not been remastered. This playlist also includes tracks from A Very Special Christmas 25th Anniversary (“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”), Folkways A Vision Shared (“Jesus Christ”), Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign (“Instant Karma”), Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (“Ordinary Love”). The set also includes tracks from the singles for “All Because of You,” “City of Blinding Lights,” “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight,” “Invisible,” “Magnificent,” “Sometimes You Can’t Make it On Your Own,” “The Saints Are Coming,” “Vertigo,” “Window in the Skies” as well as the EP “Wide Awake in America”. Two tracks are also included from U218, “The Saints are Coming” and “Window in the Skies.” Five tracks are included from The Best of 1980 – 1990 & B-Sides, “Everlasting Love,” “Unchained Melody,” “Hallelujah Here She Comes,” “A Room at the Heartbreak Hotel,” and “Dancing Barefoot”.
There are no exclusive tracks here except for “Song for Someone (Live from San Jose, 2015)” which was an exclusive streaming track on Spotify. You can find out more information about this particular track in our discography entry for the song or the news story about this release.
Both are accompanied with the now familiar Joshua Tree Tour 2017 band photo by Anton Corbijn with the playlist name above each.
