"Lucille" (1987)
Demo Song
Background Information
“Lucille” is a song that was written by Bono and he claims that the song was inspired by BB King’s guitar, which went by the same name. The song appeared throughout 1987 at a variety of tour stops on the original Joshua Tree tour, starting in April of that year. Bono also often played the brief song in media appearances during that tour.
The lyrics go as follows:
Oh Lucille, sit you right down with me,
Stay tonight, until the morning sets you free.
I know our love will last forever,
But will our love, Lucille, last the night?
Bono often sang the song with a very fake country twang, and we are unsure if this song was every developed for actual consideration on an album.
