Background Information

In a May 2004 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, reporter Austin Scaggs reports on U2’s new album and mentions this song:

U2 have recorded “Tough,” a tribute to singer Bono’s father who passed away in 2001, for their tenth album, which they hope to finish this summer for a fall release.

The song was developed further, and eventually re titled, becoming “Sometimes You Can’t Make it On Your Own” on the album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.
