Background Information

Kristel is a band from Antananarivo, Madagascar. They released the single “What’s Right For Us” on November 24, 2023. The song was produced by John Reynolds, and mixed by Flood. Adam Clayton is credited as well with the note “Produced by John Reynolds. Mixed by Flood. Under the watchful eye of Adam Clayton.” It is the second standalone single released by Kristel, following the September release of “Not Up To It“, also produced by the same team.

Clayton met Kristel in 2018, backstage at one of the shows on the 2018 Experience + Innocence tour. The band later would reach out to Adam when struggling with a song, and Adam agreed to help out, eventually getting involved in the recording of a six-song EP, “Take It Easy“, released in 2021.

In April 2022, Adam Clayton was once again in studio with Kristel. The band posted a photo of Clayton, John Reynolds and themselves with the note, “end of our recording session, with the dream team”. The recording sessions took place at OneTwoPassIt studios in Paris. This track did come from that session, and the recording can be seen in the lyric video (see below).

Promoting the single, Kristel was asked about how they produced the song and with whom in Best Magazine. “We recorded this track at the OneTwoPassIt studio in Paris under the artistic direction of John Reynolds (Brian Eno, Sinead O’Connor) and mixed by English producer Mark Ellis aka “Flood” (NIN, New Order, Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins, PJ Harvey) and all this under the watchful eye of Adam Clayton.

The single was released digitally on November 24, 2023 through worldwide digital storefronts and streaming video services. An accompanying video for the song was released the same day cut together from live performance footage, and footage of the band recording the track. Adam Clatyon can be seen in the studio during the video working behind the mixing console. An album has not been announced.
