Background Information

This single features a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound” recorded by the Street Lights collective, which features Bono, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, Villagers, The High Hopes Choir, Cathy Davey, Loah, Roisin O, Join Me In The Pines, Saint Sister and Colm Mac Con. The song has been recorded for charity, and all proceeds from sale of the song will go to Peter McVerry Trust, Simon Community Ireland and Focus Ireland which will put the profits towards rehousing throughout Ireland.

The single was released as a digital single on November 16, 2018 at 9am Dublin time. There will also be an album, a compilation of songs from some of the artists featured on the track as well as other artists. That compilation album will be released on December 7, 2018, and will feature 15 songs from Bell X1, Snow Patrol, Saint Sister, Richard Hawley with Lisa Hannigan, James Vincent McMorrow, Damien Dempsey, Luka Bloom, Villagers, Stephen James Smith, David Gray, The Frames, Lisa O’Neill and Celtic Woman. Bono will appear on the compilation album only on the track “Homeward Bound” with the collective, and will not have additional music featured on the compilation. The choir heard in the background, the High Hopes Choir, is made up of former homeless, who are now involved in education about the problem of homelessness in Ireland.

The song was recorded in Camden Studios with producer Cian Boylan in Dublin. Bono’s portion of the song was recorded on Friday, November 9, prior to the third eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE show in Dublin. His line was recorded at his home in Dalkey in advance of the concert.

Street Lights is the creation of Keith Troy (Irish Housing Network), Sinead Troy (IASCA/Yangaroo), Aoife Woodlock (Other Voices and Music Producer) and Janine Nallen (CEO of Celtic Collections and Liffey Records).

A video for the song was released on November 29, 2018.

The song is available now on digital platforms including store fronts such as iTunes, and streaming services such as Spotify. The first radio play of the single was on the Ryan Tubridy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 on November 16, 2018.
