Background Information
“A Sort of Homecoming” was not released as a commercial single, however, at the time that Island was issuing “The Unforgettable Fire” as a single in the UK, “A Sort of Homecoming” was released as a promotional single in the UK, and it also appeared as a promotional single in the USA.
In the UK a double sided 7-inch single was released in a generic sleeve. The vinyl featured the title track on both sides of the vinyl. This was the live recording of “A Sort of Homecoming” that was used on the commercial single “The Unforgettable Fire”. The label of the vinyl is white with a large “A” in the center.
In the USA, after issuing “Pride (In the Name of Love)” and “Wire” on 12-inch, the third was “A Sort of Homecoming” and was released in a generic Island sleeve. The track on both sides of the vinyl was the same, the studio version of “A Sort of Homecoming” taken from the album. “The Unforgettable Fire” was not issued as a commercial single in the USA.
