Background Information
As a Christmas gift to subscribers, on December 24, 2010 U2.com announced that it was making a track available for paid subscribers to download. That track was a live performance of U2 performing “Amazing Grace” and “Where the Streets Have No Name” live in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl on October 25th, 2009. Overtop of that recording was dubbed vocals from the Soweto Gospel Choir. The Gospel Choir was not present at the U2 performance in Pasadena it was added later in studio. The mix of the two was done for the 2010 Fifa World Cup advertisements. Each of the advertisements for ESPN that U2 was involved in took one of U2’s songs and overlaid vocals from the Soweto Gospel Choir. The download came zipped in a file called HolidayDownload.zip and the file was a 320kbps mp3 file when unzipped.
The performance at Pasadena on October 25th, 2009 from which this mp3 is taken, was also released on video as “U2360 Live from the Rose Bowl”. The version released here is very different from the version found on the Rose Bowl video due to the addition of the vocals by the Soweto Gospel Choir. This song would also be used on “Duals” the fan club album released in 2011, but for that release “Amazing Grace” and “Where the Streets Have No Name” are severed into two pieces, and have fades added at the start and end of both tracks.
