"Beautiful Day" - U2

Digital Compilation Album

Track Listing:

Background Information

This has to be one of the oddest releases in the U2 catalog. Many will look at this and automatically think this is a bootleg release, and perhaps it is, but somehow this release ended up on legitimate digital sellers such as Amazon, 7 Digital, eMusic, and HMV for sale, and services such as Spotify for streaming.

The whole thing was released on November 4, 2014, and is a reshuffling of the album “All That You Can’t Leave Behind”, including the UK bonus track, “The Ground Beneath Her Feet”. The whole album is there, just in a new running order. Now the album starts with “Grace” and ends on a quiet note with “Elevation”. The album was made available at various compressed bitrates, and also in FLAC format on various sites. A new cover is attached to these files, using a recent promotional photo of the band and a red font stating “U2” and “Beautiful Day”. All of the tracks found on this release are the same as those found on “All That You Can’t Leave Behind”.

The album was released through a label called “Rapier Music”. This label seems to produce a number of unofficial interview CDs with various artists, a number of collections of music on which the copyright has likely expired, but nothing like this U2 release. Perhaps it was an error that this became available, and it has since been removed from the Amazon US website, but it remains on other sites for sale, and on some streaming sites. This release was available two weeks before the album “Songs of Innocence” was made available to non-Apple retailers in store, and online. The release may have been an attempt to cash in on people looking for the new U2 album, two weeks before it came out on these services.
