Background Information

U2 played the Fleet Center in Boston MA on June 5 and 6, 2001, and again on June 8 and 9, 2001. The first two nights of the four night Boston stay were filmed. There was also some filming done on each of the latter two nights. On one of these nights, June 6, the show was broadcast live to the NBA finals and shown on television. This footage was also shown on numerous European television channels in October 2001, and also on DirectTV in the USA starting in November 2001. A 90-minute version even played on VH1 in November 2001.

Late in November, the performance was released to the home video market in VHS and DVD formats. The VHS contained just the basic concert, whereas the DVD included additional bonus features. The DVD featured audio in PCM Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. One of the added features on the DVD was the ability to watch multiple views of some of the songs, although not all songs are available on this feature. The video is filmed in normal 4:3 ratio.

There are two easter eggs contained on the release. The first is on disc one. Click the “Making of the Filming of”. At the end look for the Dreamchaser logo in the credits. At the top of the logo, you will see a little Bono head. Click on it quickly. Enter the following on the next screen into the flashing cubes: 1 enter 9 enter 7 enter 6 enter while the cubes are flashing. This accesses the special BonoCam feature for the first 4 minutes of “Elevation”. The second easter egg is on the second disc, and again gives you access to BonoCam footage, this time of “Until the End of the World”. To access go to the help menu by clicking the question mark in the bottom left. When in the help menu you enter 1 enter 9 enter 9 enter 1 enter and the video should start.

A number of edits were done on the material from June 6, including cuts to “Kite,” “Desire,” “Where the Streets Have No Name,” “Bullet the Blue Sky,” and “Walk On.” Further “Stay” was taken from the June 5 show as it was not performed on June 6. “Gone” is a mix of two nights, June 5 and 6. And the BonoCam footage that can be found in the easter eggs was taken from the June 9th Boston show.
