Background Information
This was a special packaging promotional item released by Island Records in the UK for promotion of the “Rattle and Hum” album. The promo was a flight case with a leather luggage tag that contained the “U2 Rattle and Hum” logo. On the inside were copies of the UK-pressing of the CD, 12-Inch vinyl, and cassette releases of “Rattle and Hum” These were packaged in a foam material. Also included as part of the promo was a strap for carrying the item, and keys for the flight case. In most cases a press release was also contained with the promotion.
The flight case was made in limited quantities, and was reported to be limited to 200 copies in total.
This packaging promo was similar to the pizza box version of “The Joshua Tree” or the tool kit for “Achtung Baby”.
