Background Information
This promotional release in early September 2000 to Denmark was titled “U2 Album Snippets” and contained short edits of all of the songs on the album All That You Can’t Leave Behind with the exception of “Beautiful Day”. The snippets vary in length from 30 seconds to 36 seconds in length, and the release was a CDR circulated in a generic Universal sleeve, with a sticker with track listings. On the track listing “Peace on Earth” is listed as just “Peace” and “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” is shortened to “Stuck in a Moment”. These are CD quality tracks burned to CDR and distributed to Danish radio stations for promotion.
The same tracks were also sent to Argentinian radio via the Anglo 156 promotional release by Universal Music. In each case the audio snippet on that release is the same as on this one, but most are edited with less silence at the start and end on the Argentinian disc.
These same snippets were used to promote the album on U2.com, however at a low quality 128kbps mp3 file format. All of these snippets are the same as what was aired on U2.com, with the exception of “Elevation” – in that case the version on U2.com had a slightly different intro, and more of the track could be heard. The snippets on U2.com were meant to be unveiled one or two per week over the run up to the album release, however fans quickly discovered all of the tracks were available at the same time.
