Background Information

U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle, Ireland was the fifth CD released by the U2 fan club, and the third after the fan club went to a digital-only web subscription that offered CDs on an annual basis. It was issued as a 2CD set for subscribers who signed up for the year 2007. The offer included a choice of Slane Castle-themed T-shirts to accompany the CD set. The subscription package was first announced in November of 2007, with the first copies arriving in subscribers’ mail boxes on December 24.

The CDs simply contain audio of the previously released U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle DVD, which had been released on November 17, 2003. Frustratingly, the DVD removes “Mysterious Ways” from the original running order of the concert and places it as a “bonus track” elsewhere on the disc. Even more frustrating, this mysterious change was left intact for the fan club CD release. Instead of being edited back into the proper sequence of the show, “Mysterious Ways” is tacked on to the end of CD 2 as a “bonus track.” The reasoning behind this is unclear.

The CDs were housed in a cardboard gatefold sleeve that, when opened, revealed recording information as well as a slot for each CD, one on the left and one on the right. This fan club exclusive CD set is sometimes confused with the general market DVD release, because the DVD was issued in both standard DVD packaging and in a jewel case format with nearly identical cover art.

The tracks here are unique to this release in audio format, with the exception of five tracks released on a promotional single in Mexico: “Elevation,” “Beautiful Day,” “Out of Control,” “Where the Streets Have No Name,” and “One.” Due to variations in the track timings from the Mexican promotional CD, it is believed that the fan club CD is a uniquely mastered version.
