Background Information

The A&M Radio Sampler series was a series of promotional CD releases sent to radio each month in Canada, containing the newest releases from A&M records and associated labels including Island Records. The series started in 1989, and was pressed CD releases right up to the end of the collection, in June 1994.

Over that five years a number of U2 tracks and U2-related tracks were collected. In many cases individual promotional CDs were not issued for these tracks in Canada, and instead were delivered to radio as part of these collections. Those tracks are listed above, and below in our catalog section you can find more information on the individual items on which each can be found.

The CDs were delivered by mail to the radio station each week in a regular jewel case, with no front insert. The back insert was black and white text, outlining the tracks and the source of the tracks. Occasionally you would see a small “M/A/P/L” symbol which identified any Canadian content on the discs.

In 1994, the collection was retitled A&M / Island / Motown Radio Sampler and as such we have continued the releases under that title in a separate entry. It continued as a weekly series.
