Background Information

On October 12, 2007, the film “Across the Universe” debuted in theatres worldwide. (It had previously been shown at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2007.) The movie was directed by Julie Taymor who would later work with Bono and The Edge on the early stages of “Spiderman: Turn Up the Dark”. The movie was a romantic drama which used the songs of The Beatles throughout much as any musical would. Bono makes a cameo in the film as “Dr. Robert”. The DVD and Blu-ray formats of the movie were released on February 5, 2008.

During the film “I Am the Walrus” is performed by Dr. Robert (Bono) and at the end of the film we hear “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” performed by Bono and The Edge. Both songs are covers of songs performed initially by The Beatles. The performance of “I Am the Walrus” is Bono with a band called Secret Machines, an alternative rock band from Dallas.

The soundtrack album was released in two formats, a single disc version, as well as two-disc deluxe edition. The single disc version contains both tracks that U2 are involved in. The deluxe edition adds additional songs to the release, and both tracks featuring U2 are included on disc two of the set.
