Background Information
The “Big Shiny Tunes” albums are a series of compilation albums released in Canada starting in 1996 and running as a series until “Big Shiny Tunes 14” released in 2009. The albums were a big success, collecting popular rock songs from the year each CD was compiled, and being sold just before Christmas each year. U2 never appeared on the regular series but they did appear on both compilations that did look backwards to the 1990s.
This CD, the first “Big Shiny 90s” compilation features the album version of “Mysterious Ways”.
The CD was released just before Christmas in 2002, and eventually was certified as 2x Platinum in Canada. A second 90s compilation would follow also featuring U2, as would an 80s compilation that did not feature U2.
