Background Information
This compilation album celebrating the music of 1984 was put together in 1993 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Now That’s What I Call Music series of releases. It includes two edited versions of U2 related tracks, “Pride (In the Name of Love)” and “Do They Know it’s Christmas?”. Both are shorter than the original released versions. The compilation was released on CD and in cassette formats and was a joint release by Polygram, Virgin Records and EMI.
The tenth anniversary series was released from June to August 1993, with a series of 10 collections released covering the years 1983 – 1993. Two additional volumes were later added covering the years 1994 and 1995. In 1999 another series would be done, this time called The Millennium Series, and featuring different tracks from this 10th anniversary series.
