Background Information
This compilation of songs was put together by Knitting Works “for the human rights of lesbians and gays”. The project was a joint venture of Deneuve Magazine, 10 Percent Magazine and The Advocate Magazine. Benefits from the release of the CD were for the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission. The liner notes explain this organization, “The International Gay and Lesbian Human RIghts Commission, founded in 1991, advocates for a world in which the most fundamental rights of sexual minorities and people with AIDS and HIV will be respected. Part of this mission is to redefine the global battle for human rights to include the rights of these people. Our unique, multifaceted approach combines monitoring, documenting, lobbying, grassroots organizing, public education and technical assistance. Proceeds from this album will directly support our efforts towards a world that respects the human rights and dignity of all people.”
U2 contributed a remix of the track “Night and Day” for this compilation. U2 had recorded the song “Night and Day” which is a cover of a Cole Porter song. The original song was included on “Red, Hot and Blue” which was the first in a series of compilations by the Red Hot Organization, an international organization dedicated to fighting AIDS through the use of pop culture. The remix contributed to “Out Loud” is listed here as “Youth’s Remix” on the CD. This is very similar to the track which appears on the “Night and Day” promotional single under the name “Night and Day (Twilight Mix)”. The two mixes are close to being the same, although they differ in the last minute and a half in the timing of the mix and in the ending. The “Out Loud” compilation remains the only place that this edit of the song is commercially available on CD to our knowledge. The “Twilight Remix” has never been made available outside of vinyl.
