Background Information
Promo Only is a DJ service that offers monthly curated discs for radio services, DJs, entertainment venues, and music professionals. They offer services in various countries. The US branch started producing content with urban and club releases in the early 1990s. Stations subscribe for a monthly fee to these services, and each month get new material to air, cleared for use on their stations.
The Modern Rock series started in November 1995, and more recently goes by the title Modern Rock Radio.
In most cases the tracks in use on these promotional discs is the same as what has been made available via promotional CDs from the label direct, but occasionally with silence at the start and the end trimmed out to make the song more palatable to radio listeners. A couple of items do differ and offer up unique mixes on these collections.
- On the June 2015 Modern Rock release, “Song for Someone” is the Radio Mix of the song, but the mix fades out slightly earlier than the version released elsewhere for promo. Other than that difference, it is also mixed slightly louder than the standalone promotional CD from the UK.
- “Get Out of Your Own Way” on the February 2018 Modern Rock release is also edited here different than other promotional releases, although that edit also appears to have been distributed direct by the label as well.
