Background Information
“Strong Girl” was initially released as a single with only female vocalists, and was released through ONE to promote the “Poverty is Sexist” campaign for women’s rights, and to celebrate the power of girls and women everywhere. The single was initially released in May 2015. ONE is an international campaigning and advocacy organization co-founded by Bono of U2. Product (RED) is a division of the ONE campaign.
On August 28, 2015, it was announced that there would be a remix of the song “Strong Girl” this time incorporating male vocals. D’banj, Diamond and Banky W were all announced to feature on this new mix of “Strong Girl” and Bono was also announced as a contributor. Bono was present at the press conference to announce the track in Lagos, Nigeria. Bono’s contribution to the track was recorded during August 27 – 28th, during his visit to Nigeria.
Remixing of the track took several weeks. Music production was by Cobhams Asuquo. A video was also recorded by Godfather Productions.
The track was made available to users who signed a petition at http://www.one.org/africa/take-action/stand-with-strong-girls/. Once you signed and provided your email address, you were emailed a link to download the file. The file was in mp3 format at 160kbps. There was an embedded cover featuring a picture from the recording session. The campaign, video on YouTube, and mp3 download were made available on September 24, 2015.

Together we can amplify the powerful message that poverty is sexist.
‘Strong Girl’ features vocalists Waje (Nigeria), D’Banj (Nigeria) Victoria Kimani (Kenya), Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania), Banky W (Nigeria), Arielle T (Gabon), Diamond (Tanzania) Gabriela (Mozambique), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Selmor Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Judith Sephuma (South Africa), new talent Blessing Nwafor (South Africa), and U2’s Bono. The video stars Omotola Jalade Ekeinde (Nigeria).
