Background Information

This DVD release was sent to voters for the 2014 Emmy Awards for their consideration in category #74, “Outstanding Variety Series” and contains the full unedited first episode of “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon”. The video runs 44:32 in total, and is one continuous track, it is not broken into smaller segments.

On the first episode of “The Tonight Show” in which Fallon hosted, his first musical guests were U2. U2 performed the new song “Invisible” twice on “The Top of the Rock” an observation deck on the 70th floor of NBC’s 30 Rock building in Rockerfeller Centre. The band did two takes of the song, and were accompanied for both by Rutgers University Marching Band. This is later followed in the program by a short interview clip with the band in studio (05:24) which leads into U2 performing “Ordinary Love” in studio that starts out with just The Edge and Bono performing, with Larry and Adam joining in later on tambourine and acoustic bass. At the end of the performance Fallon’s house band The Roots join in. The performance of “Ordinary Love” fades out at the end of the DVD.

The Emmy Awards for 2014 cover the dates June 1, 2013 – May 31, 2014. The nominees for the awards were announced on July 10, 2014. More than 16,000 voting members filled out nominating ballots between June 9-June 20. The winners will be announced on Monday, Aug. 25, during a ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, and “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon” is one of the nominees in the category for which this DVD was sent. The DVDs were circulated in early June 2014. It is unknown how many copies were circulated to voters. The DVD was sent in a cardboard sleeve.
