Full Track Listing
In 1992 Bono contributed English lyrics to a song performed by Zucchero and Luciano Pavarotti. This song would appear on Zucchero’s 1992 album “Miserere” and would also be performed live and included on Pavarotti’s first “Pavarotti and Friends” album. The song was also released as a single throughout Europe, and in select other regions. In most European countries, the single contained “Miserere” and was backed by “Anytime” on 7-inch vinyl and also included “L’Urlo” on 5-inch CD. In France a 2-track card sleeve single was produced which only contained “Anytime” for an extra track.
In the UK a double 5-inch CD set was produced. The first week the single was on sale you could buy the digipack which contained one disc, but had room for the second. That week, the CD released contained “Miserere” as well as “Brick” and “Pene”. The second week you could buy the second single to add to the pack, which was the same as the 5-inch CD single sold elsewhere with “Anytime” and “L’Urlo”. Promotions like this were done to increase the sales of the single, and increase the likelihood of staying near the top of the charts for a longer period of time. “Miserere” did make the UK charts, and peaked at #15.
Although credited in the small song credits on most releases, some copies are released with a large front sticker announcing “Lyrics by Bono” as well as the catalog number, most likely as a method to draw further attention, and further sales toward the single. Both copies of the 7-inch and 5-inch CD single were both stickered in this manner.
Miserere: Produced and arranged by Corrado Rustici. Executive producer: Michele Torpedine. Recorded and mixed by Gordon Lyon. Orchestra on “Miserere” arranged and conducted by Michael Kamen. Recorded by Stephen McLaughlin. Music by Zucchero. English lyrics by Bono.
