U2 Shows on This Day
- Festival au Desert, Timbuktu, Mali (2012) [Bono]
Bono joins the band Tinariwen as well as Bassekou Kouyate on stage, but the songs performed are unknown and appear to be more of an improvisation with Bono making up lyrics in French. Tinariwen are made up of former Tuareg rebels, who play the blues, and who had formed in exile in Libya in the 1980s.
The crowd for the festival was about 7000. Bono attended the first night, in a VIP box, and stayed for about an hour. The day of his appearance he went for a hike alone into the desert, before heading to the festival. A few hours later Bono was on a plane out and heading for Bamako.
