Adam Clayton Shares Tour Plans in 2026 or 2027
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2024-11-26)
Adam Clayton appeared on RTL with Éric Jean-Jean today. The full interview can be heard here. Of particular note is his answer to what comes next for U2. It’s the most detailed answer to date:
We are recording, we are in and out of the studio. We really want to get a record of new songs to our audience. When we know what that record is, we’ll go out and tour it. I don’t know which year. It may be 2026, it may be 2027. It depends. First of all we had to find out if Larry could play. We found out that Larry can play. We went into studio with him, we did 3-4 weeks at the end of the summer. We have 3-4 songs from that, which is really, really, good. We are going back in 2 weeks time to do more recording with Larry. I think before Christmas we’ll have 6-7 songs to consider. We’ll finish those songs off, and then we’ll have a record to release, the end of the year [2025], or the beginning of the next year [2026], I’m not sure how long it will take…
It looks like the band are looking at trying to get an album out of new material, and then will go on tour. Adam Clayton suggested the tour may be in 2026, but mentioned 2027 is also a possibility at this point and it will depend on where the album and the songs take the band.
It sounds as if the band have left the ‘rock and roll’ album that Adam once called Songs for Fighting behind and are working towards something new instead.
The Edge has also brought up the new album, and has also talked about some solo work that he and Bono have been doing with Jacknife Lee, and traditional Irish musicians, which he called a sci-fi folk album which appears to be a different project, but may end up being combined with the U2 album at a later date. Yesterday, The Edge shared that Brian Eno is also involved in that sci-fi folk project. Many of the musicians mentioned to date, worked with Bono and The Edge (and Jacknife Lee) for the David Letterman special A Sort of Homecoming, released in 2023.
Both Edge and Adam have spoken about their time at Sphere, and have suggested they won’t be returning anytime soon. Both have said they would like to get back out and go to their fans, instead of asking fans to come to them in recent interviews. It does sound as the focus is on getting a new album out, and then following that up with a tour.
We’ll have a bigger wrap up of the U2 news from this week’s interviews coming up towards the end of the week. However, if you’d like to get a jump and listen to some of these interviews while you wait, we are keeping track of the media appearances in one spot.
Many thanks to Nicolas.
