“Beautiful Day” Digital Release Friday July 19
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2024-07-18)
After winding through the Pop singles, and then recently sharing “Sweetest Thing” U2 move on this week with the eighth release in the “To Love and Only Love” collection. This time out the single released is “Beautiful Day” which will be released on streaming services on Friday, July 19. It is expected that the remainder of the collection will be the singles from All That You Can’t Leave Behind and then the final single will be “Electrical Storm”. Twelve U2 singles in total are being reissued in 2024. A new updated single has been released every two weeks since the project started, but this one follows three weeks after the last instead, due to holidays.

The “To Love and Only Love” collection is an effort by U2 to upgrade their offerings on streaming services. Many of these tracks have not been available in the past on these services. The tracks included here are taken from the commercial singles released in 2000 on CD, vinyl and cassette formats.
The songs included on the new “Beautiful Day” release, available tomorrow, are as follows:
- “Beautiful Day” (Studio Version) – U2 (04:07)
- “Summer Rain” (Studio Version) – U2 (04:08)
- “Always” (Studio Version) – U2 (03:47)
- “Discothèque” (Live from Mexico City, Dec. 3, 1997) – U2 (05:09)
- “If You Wear that Velvet Dress” (Live from Mexico City, Dec. 3, 1997) – U2 (02:44)
- “Last Night on Earth” (Live from Mexico City, Dec. 3, 1997) – U2 (06:32)
- “Beautiful Day” (Quincey & Sonance Remix) – U2 (07:58)
- “Beautiful Day” (The Perfecto Mix) – U2 (07:50)
- “Beautiful Day” (David Holmes Remix) – U2 (05:34)
These tracks were originally found on the “Beautiful Day” single as well as a split single of “Beautiful Day” / “Elevation” later released during promotion of the album.
“Beautiful Day” was released commercially on October 9, 2000. “Beautiful Day” was a massive success for U2. It reached the top spot in the Canadian, Irish, and UK charts and made it to #21 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the USA. The song also gave U2 a #1 in the Dance / Club Play Songs chart in the US. It has been listed on Q Magazine’s 1001 Best Songs Ever list at #747, and comes in at #345 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
There’s been some question on where to find these on Apple Music. Apple Music seems to be following different filing systems for these as they come out. “Please” and “If God Will Send His Angels” both fall under singles, and are listed with their 1997 release date, so you’ll have to scroll back to find them. “Discotheque” and “Staring at the Sun” are both listed under singles as well, but these are listed with a 2024 release date, so are easily found under singles. “Last Night on Earth” is listed under albums, and with the 1997 release date, so it is not in an expected location at all.
“Beautiful Day” has appeared on streaming services previously, but only in limited territories. These releases were done in 2005, and 2008. The single was also available as part of The Complete U2. Most of these previously available offerings have been unavailable for a while. In 2021 U2 did release the digital EP “The Virtual Road: PopMart Live from Mexico City” which included four songs taken from the show where the above tracks are taken. “If You Wear that Velvet Dress” was available on that EP, however “Discothèque” and “Last Night on Earth” were not.
