On Friday, moments before the kick off of the first UEFA Euro 2020 tournament game between Turkey and Italy, Bono and The Edge will be part of a virtual performance filmed for the opening ceremony. In the film, they will join DJ Martin Garrix to perform “We Are the People.” The song, the official song of the tournament, was released last month.

As we told you before, Friday’s performance is pre-taped. Bono and The Edge joined Garrix in London in May to film their portions of the video. The video will feature the three in a digital recreation of the stadium in Rome where the game takes place.

A press release from UEFA describes the performance, “The performance, themed around a real-life live stadium gig, will weave the song’s lyrics of hope and positivity, together with powerful imagery brought to life by technology, including the pitch being transformed into a blue-white flame, energy fields created from millions of light particles and Bono projected on to the stage delivering a powerful yet intimate vocal performance that will resonate with the millions watching from home.”

The virtual stage will be in front of a virtual audience. Promotional images show Garrix and The Edge on a stage in the middle of the field, surrounded by flashes from virtual phones and cameras in the stands.

The game will kick off at 15:00 ET / 21:00 CET, so tune in shortly before that for the performance.
