Bono participates in celebration of Naomi Judd

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2022-05-16)

Last night CMT aired Naomi Judd: A River of Time. Bono read from the lyrics of The Judds’ “Guardian Angels” during the broadcast.

Naomi Judd, member of The Judds, died on April 30, 2022. Her family held a private ceremony to celebrate her life on May 7, 2022. The private ceremony took place at the CMA Theater in Nashville, TN. Bono was not in attendance, but sent a video of himself reading the lyrics from The Judds’ song “Guardian Angel”. It is not known where Bono had recorded the video which was used, or on what day it was recorded. We list it under the date where it was first used.

On May 15, a public celebration was held which was aired on the CMT network in the United States. The program was called A River of Time. Once again the video of Bono reading lyrics from “Guardian Angel” was used in the broadcast. Performing during the program were Ashley McBryde, Brad Paisley, Brandi Carlile, Carly Pearce, Emmylou Harris and Allison Russell, Gaither Vocal Band, Jamey Johnson, Little Big Town and Naomi’s daughter, Wynonna Judd. Others joining Bono in reading, or remembering Judd were Bette Midler, Morgan Freeman, Oprah Winfrey, Reba McEntire, Reese Witherspoon and Salma Hayek.

The celebration was hosted by ABC’s Good Morning America host, Robin Roberts.
