Bono to Record ‘Lean On Me’ With Kirk Franklin
Allstar by Tina Johnson (1998-03-15)
Remember that Kirk Franklin album we told you about in allstar, in
which U2 frontman Bono will be making a guest appearance? Well, the
track he will be singing on now has a name: “Lean On Me.” Also said
to be guesting on the track, which is not a rendition of the classic
Bill Withers hit of the same name, is R. Kelly, according to a
source.
Sources say that Bono, who has not yet laid down vocals for the song
as he is currently wrapping up U2’s mega- PopMart tour, will be
recording his part sometime this month. Also involved in the project
is producer and Interscope Records head Jimmy Iovine, who was the one
who got Bono and Franklin together, although Iovine is not expected
to be producing this or any other tracks on the album.
As previously reported in allstar, the album is said to be a Franklin
solo effort, but will feature members of his other projects, God’s
Property from Kirk Franklin’s Nu Nation and Kirk Franklin & the
Family.
