Breaking Waves…Guggi film, Outfoxed Update, Adam Clayton film Debut and more…
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2026-01-27)
Today the Dublin International Film Festival announced their 2026 programme, starting on February 19 and running until March 1. Among the line up of films is the film, Guggi making its debut in theatres. The film directed by Ian Thullier, is making its debut at the film festival.
The description on the DIFF site reads, “Internationally acclaimed artist, Guggi, rose from the anarchic post-punk energy of Dublin’s late-1970s music scene, but abandoned performance to pursue a solitary artistic path. Filmed over multiple years with unprecedented access, the documentary follows Guggi through the quiet rituals of creation. Long-time friends Bono and Gavin Friday offer intimate recollections of their shared upbringing in a city shaped by religion, poverty and creativity while other artists contextualise his immense influence on contemporary Irish art. More than a biography, the film meditates on the necessity of art, exploring how a life shaped by trauma finds meaning through discipline, quietness and creation.”
Thullier’s own site lists it as a “feature documentary about the life and work of contemporary abstract painter and sculptor, Guggi. With contributions by Jim Sheridan, Sean Scully, Bono, Gavin Friday and many more.” Thullier early produced the documentary Ladies & Gentlemen Mr. Gavin Friday for the RTE Arts Lives series in 2010, and also the documentary film Ghost Blues: The Story of Rory Gallagher.
The film is rated 18+, runs 1 hour and 17 minutes, and is being released by Tall Tale Films Production. It debuts on February 26, 2026 as part of the Dublin International Film Festival.
Guggi (as well as Gavin Friday) grew up with Bono on Cedarwood Road and became close friends as kids, leading to the formation of Lypton Village. Bono’s name is one of many featured on the film poster, and is featured in the film.

Speaking of films, Outfoxed! provided a quick update on progress recently. “Hello everyone, sorry we’ve been a little bit quiet recently. We’ve had our heads down working to get the pre-production for the film finished. We’re nearly there and will have some further news soon!”
The film will feature Bono in the role of a hound dog named Plato. He is the leader of the pack of hounds chasing a family of foxes through the city. The CGI film is due out later this year. The film is directed by Paul Bolger, and written by Barry Devlin.
When we have a release date we’ll let you know.

Martin Garrix has collaborated with Bono and The Edge in the past, on “We Are the People“, the theme song for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. Since that time, Bono has also been credited with co-writing with Garrix on a couple of songs. Both “Weightless“ and “Angels for Each Other“ have been released as singles featuring Garrix and Arijit Singh. Bono doesn’t appear on the singles, but he does get a songwriting credit.
Martin Garrix has been recently signaling that he’s getting closer to the completion of his first full album in a number of years. He’s recently revealed that the album is full of dream collaborations. He’s not confirmed any appearances by U2, but he has mentioned he’s working with an unnamed rock band on one of the tracks. In a recent Tomorrowland interview he did reveal one of the songs Bono co-wrote, “Weightless” is a likely contender for the album. He currently has about 50 songs and is working on paring them down for an album. A release is likely mid-year. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one.
It does look like Martin Garrix does have another unreleased song called “Blurry” with songwriting credits that match up to “Weightless” including Bono. An early version of “Weightless” or an unreleased track?

The 2026 Grammy Awards will air on February 1, 2026. While U2 aren’t up for any awards this year, there’s one album with some U2 ties up for Best Rock Album this year. Haim’s I Quit is nominated in that category. Haim appeared in 2018 on U2’s “Lights of Home” which used elements of Haim’s “My Song 5”. The band turned things around on I Quit with the song “Now it’s Time”, which uses the riff from U2’s “Numb”, recreated by the band for the backbone of the song. You can hear it below.

A lot of little side projects and related items, but little news of yet on the band’s plan for new music. We hope to be back in the near future with some updates on that front. Stay tuned!
