Breaking Waves…Message for Anton, Three Sales, Black Friday

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2025-10-04)

Anton Corbijn received the MPA Icon Award awarded at the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards on Thursday night. The director of marketing and creative for Abbey Road, Mark Robertson shared, “Anton Corbijn’s work has been part of the cultural fabric of modern music for over five decades. His photography doesn’t just document – it defines, it innovates, and it inspires artists, fans and photographers alike. At Abbey Road, we’re thrilled to celebrate a true icon whose artistry continues to influence.”

In a video shared by our friends at U2enEspaña we get a look into the awards show:

The band are gathered around the Achtung Baby Trabant which has recently been used by Universal in promotional material for the “Zoo TV Live in Dublin 1993” EP, released last year. The Trabant was seen in commercials shot around Ireland, including some of the coastal areas and in Dublin itself. The Trabant has been in storage in Ireland since that promotion. The video clip to celebrate Corbijn is new, and we believe it was part of the footage of the band being filmed last week in the Dublin area.

One of the ads featuring the Trabant can be seen below:

The Discogs website has a feature called “This Week’s Most Valuable Vinyl Records & CDs” which maps the most expensive items sold on the site each week. It is available on their front page.

This week, it’s U2’s “Three” at the top of the most expensive list. The copy sold was sold for a whopping €4,900.00.

It seems like an inflated price as the ad listed, “First issue. 1000 copies of this single were made with a hand-numbered sticker on the CBS sleeve. Some first issue copies exist without the sticker which was a result of over production. So these copies have all the first issue identifiers but have no numbered sticker on the cover. Record mfd. In Ireland on labels. MADE IN ENGLAND on labels. NM/EX”

Even with the sticker, hitting that price hasn’t happened often. But without the sticker, the record usually goes for much lower. As the first pressing, even without the sleeve collectors are interested, and the record itself has slightly different mastering than the later repressings.

The single celebrated it’s 46th anniversary last week, and we took a closer look around our site at our “Three” related pieces last week.

Photofusion, a London-based charity, reached out to share that they were selling a print of Adam Clayton, photographed by Peter Neill, during the U2360 tour. The print is being sold among prints of other artists from October 1 to October 15. The fundraising effort is in support of Photofusion’s charitable work, including “training and mentorship for young people, adult learners, and the larger London community.” You can find the print for sale here.

Hoodies are popping up around the world, the 2025 gift from U2.com. Don’t worry they are still shipping out 2024 gifts as well, and we know many haven’t yet received those. If you are having issues with the subscription site, we usually send people to U2.com/help, but don’t forget the Zootopia forums as well. It’s often worth leaving a comment in one of the existing topics if you are having issues as well, and access to the Zootopia forums is part of our subscription.

Black Friday Record Store Day is happening again in November, but the list is out and U2 is not participating. The last time U2 didn’t release a project for one of the Record Store Day events that happen twice a year? They skipped Black Friday 2022. Before that you have to go all the way back to Black Friday 2016 to find the previous event they skipped.

Yes, there was one year where they were not on the list when it was announced, but were added a day later, that doesn’t seem to be the case this year. Looks like we will get the day off from shopping for a new U2 release, to focus on other things!

We maintain a list of all of the U2 Record Store Day releases from through the years in the U2 discography!
