Consequence of Sound Ranks Alt Rock
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2016-03-31)
Consequence of Sound has recently ranked all of songs which have charted at number 1 on the Alternative Rock Charts in the US (including when they were called Modern Rock.) There were 336 songs considered for the rankings, and this included eight songs by U2. The full list of songs can be found at this link for those who want to explore a little further. The act with the most number ones? The Red Hot Chili Peppers with twelve, four more than U2 have achieved. These charts go back to 1988, which is when Billboard started tracking the charts.
The U2 songs that made the list, which means they ranked number one on the charts at one time or another?
- #237: Discotheque
- #199: Vertigo
- #189: Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
- #172: The Fly
- #113: Staring at the Sun
- #40: Desire
- #31: Mysterious Ways
- #26: One
The list is filled with videos for the songs, embedded via Youtube and could easily be a way to pass several hours of time. The top five include songs from the Smashing Pumpkins, Lorde, R.E.M., The White Stripes, and Nirvana. I have to admit, I was suprised to see “Staring at the Sun” ranked where it was out of those eight songs.
