Irish Action: U-2, Berlin, Sacre Bleu Singles

Hot Press (1979-09-14)

U-2, ‘The Dublin four-piece” of growing promise bring out their first release on 26th September on CBS. Entitled “U-2 Three”, the EP features “Out Of Control” as A-side with “Boy/Girl” and “Stories for Boys” on the flip.

Such is CBS (Ireland)‘s involvement in the single that the first 1,000 copies will be in 12” and following 7” records will be in a pic sleeve.

The A-side was chosen after the three tracks had been played on the Dave Fanning Rock Show and Fanning’s listeners were asked to write in with their preference and plumped for “Out of Control”.

The three tracks which were recorded at Windmill under the supervision of Chas De Whalley of CBS England were remixed for release last Tuesday by Robbie McGrath, the Boomtown Rats sound engineer.

With the ink dry on their recording deal with Charisma, Berlin have announced that their first single, entitled “Over 21” will be recorded in Wessex Studios during the first week of October. The band say also that the sessions have been commissioned by John Peel and Captial Radio, and that the Charisma deal covers Irish distribution.

The band will play its last Irish gig before leaving for the English engagements on 16th September in McGonagles, and on its return, will play first at Ballinastoe on 22nd October.

Sacre Bleu are set to record the follow-up to their record “Broken Promises” single, in Windmill Studios. The discs, “Move It/Just Another Saturday Night” will be produced by Donal Lunny, and the sleeve will again be designed by Jim Fitzpatrick.

The band play a special gig on 19 September in the Sportsman’s Inn to launch the single, and it will be in the shops shortly afterwards.
