Update: The map is now available at this link.

U2’s “Three” was the first commercial release by U2, with the original EP being released on September 26th, 1979. The first released version was a special limited 1000 copy pressing on 12-inch. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of that release U2 have released a new version of the EP for the Record Store Day Black Friday event. This new version is limited to 17,000 copies worldwide and it too is numbered. As we have done for previous limited number releases, we are once again going to map the location of these releases. This time out however, we are putting a little twist on things. We are also going to map where the original copies of the release ended up forty years later.

For those who would like to submit their release you can find the instructions below. You can submit them through Twitter, at our Facebook account or via email. The instructions are below.

We don’t have the map ready to share just yet, but we will launch it when we have some data in place. You can however, see our map for the Songs of Experience box set, if you want to get a look at how these look when they are live.

For more information on the release of “Three” for Record Store Day, please see our discography entry for the release.

Additional Notes

  • User names should be short, and easily displayed. We can use your twitter handle, your first and last name, initials, or something to identify you as the owner.
  • If you own an original copy of “Three” that is not one of the first 1000 that were numbered, we unfortunately will not be able to add your copy to the map. We are only adding the limited 12-Inch from 1979, and the newer 12-Inch from 2019.
  • The 2019 sticker is on the front of the sleeve. It is the number that is on the bottom line of the sticker and says “No. X,XXX of 17,000” it is not the number that is higher up on the sticker that says 0803080, that is the catalog number.
  • As the team is traveling, we may take some time to get entries up on the map but we will do our best to get them up in a timely fashion. But there may be a delay in when they appear from the time you send them in.
  • If you are buying copies for other people, and sending them on, please let those people know to visit us and let us know what copy they have. We’re listing the final homes on the map, not where they were purchased.
  • The map will display the records in two different colours. The 1979 version will display in orange (like the CBS cover) and the 2019 version will display in green (like the new cover.)
  • When the new map goes live we will announce it on Facebook and Twitter, and will include a link here as well.
