Original Story: July 15, 2024
Gavin Friday is best known as an Irish singer and songwriter, founding member of the Virgin Prunes, and for his own solo career in music. U2 fans will know him for other things as well, including being a creative director for the band, and his work on projects with Bono such as the recently released Peter and the Wolf film.
Today Gavin Friday has relaunched his website GavinFriday.com. A minute taken from a new piece of music can also be heard upon visiting the site, and you can now sign up for news via a mailing list. It does not appear that the full track has been released, and so far it just seems to be a tease of things to come.
The file that plays is not identified on the site, but appears to be titled “Ecce Homo (Smallboy Remix)” from the tagging of the file. Friday’s social media accounts now include the message “He who is, who was, who it yet to come…”
Ecce Homo was the tentative title of the album when Gavin has discussed the album in various past press coverage.
The album will be Friday’s fifth solo album, following Each Man Kills the Thing He Loves (1989), Adam ‘n’ Eve (1992), Shag Tobacco (1995) and Catholic (2011). The album will be released on BMG, and it is not know if the album will have any U2 collaborations.
Recent work by Gavin Friday with U2 includes the song “There’s Nothing to be Afraid Of“ co-written by Bono and featured in the Peter and the Wolf film, and a remake of “Lemon” for the opening of each Sphere concert. Gavin Friday acted as creative director for the shows at Sphere. Over the last few years Friday has also been working on reissues of the back catalog of the Virgin Prunes.
