New Remastered Edition of Jagger’s “Goddess in the Doorway”

Original Story (2019-11-05)

In 2001, Mick Jagger released his solo album, Goddess in the Doorway which featured Bono on a track called “Joy.” Bono and Jagger worked on the song, and Bono sings vocals on the track. Bono recorded his vocals the day after a tour stop in Cologne on the Elevation tour in 2001. Jagger said of the song, “I was in my little studio in France just playing the guitar and I just wrote it more or less straight out. Lyrically, I just filled in the gaps later. It was just a gospel song really, and I wrote it very quickly. As for Bono, when you’ve done so many records for so many years, you have to give young people a go. It worked really well – I’d already done the vocal, then I took it to him. He took it and did a lot of stream of consciousness at the end.” The album was released in both CD and vinyl formats in late 2001.

The album is now being reissued on black vinyl, just in time for Christmas. All four of Jagger’s solo albums will be reissued on 180 gram vinyl on December 6, 2019. This will include Goddess in the Doorway spread across two discs.

The album will featured printed inner bags with lyrics, and has been remastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. The transfers are from analogue tape, and have been mastered via a Half-Speed Mastering process. The album also contains collaborations with Wyclef Jean, Pete Townshend, and Rob Thomas. Writing credits for the song “Joy” are just listed as Mick Jagger, Bono is credited only on vocals. The song also appeared on Jagger’s The Very Best of Mick Jagger compilation album in 2007.

The album is being reissued through Universal Music. It can be pre-ordered now.

You can see a video of Bono recording the song in the video below. “There’s some beautiful little notes in there if I can reach them.”
