New Single Information: Beautiful Day
Original story (www.u2wanderer.org) by Aaron J. Sams (2000-07-20)
Bono was interviewed on BBC Radio One this morning, annoucing that today the new single “Beautiful Day” was being mixed. Fans could catch the mixing of the single on the two web cams installed in the studio. (www.u2.com for the webcam, or the I Will Follow section of these pages for a backdoor in).
Bono also read some of the lyrics from this new single during the interview.
“Heart is a bloom it shoots up through the stony ground.
There’s no room there’s no space to rent in this town.
You’re out of luck and the reason you had to care,
The traffic is stuck and you’re not moving anywhere.
You thought you found a friend to take you out of this place.
Someone you could lend a hand to in return for grace.
Hey, it’s a beautiful day don’t let it get away.
It’s a beautiful day don’t let it get away.”
Bono also says his work with Jubilee 2000’s ‘Drop the Debt’ Campaign has had an effect on the record: “There’s a sense of something going on, that I think has come from all of this, and it’s up to others to figure out if I’m talking through my arse or not and we’ve
completely lost the plot.”
Bono continues, “There’s a fire in the belly of this music. There’s a certain joy that I’ve picked from working with the Jubilee people, and there’s a righteous anger, if you want to call it that, that makes for great rock and roll.”
