New U2 Mix for Climb With Charlie
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2022-02-04)
U2 have shared a new version of “I’ll Go Crazy if I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” airing the song on RTÉ Radio 1’s The Ryan Tubridy Show on February 4, 2022 at 9:30am. The song was contributed to Charlie Bird for his Climb with Charlie campaign. The one minute clip is being called “Crazy Mountain” for the campaign. It is not known if U2 will share a longer version of the mix. The mix sounds very similar to the album mix but repeats a number of lyrics.
The song will also be made available through the Climb with Charlie social media channels after the debut this morning on radio:
“I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” was originally released in 2009 for the No Line on the Horizon album and also released as the third single from the album with a number of remixes of the title track. The song also inspired will.i.am to create the Black Eyed Peas chart-topping hit, “I’ve Got A Feeling”. The song reached #7 on Ireland’s Top 50 chart upon its original release, and it reached #32 in the UK charts. The lyrics of this new one minute mix include:
“It’s not a hill, it’s a mountain
As you start out the climb
It’s not a hill, it’s a mountain
As you start out the climb
Do you believe me or are you doubting?
We’re gonna make it all the way to the light
It’s not a hill, it’s a mountain
As you start out the climb
It’s not a hill, it’s a mountain
As you start out the climb
Do you believe me or are you doubting?
We’re gonna make it all the way to the light
We’re gonna make it all the way to the light”
Thanks so much to Bono for donating the track "Crazy Mountain" for our Campaign Video. We really appreciate the gesture and the support.

Charlie Bird is an Irish journalist and broadcaster, now retired from RTÉ where he acted as Chief News Correspondent and Washington Correspondent during his time with the station. Late last year Bird announced that he had Motor neuron disease, after experiencing issues with his voice.
As part of his time as Washington Correspondent, Bird met Bono in Washington DC, on one of Bono’s many trips there to lobby government officials for his humanitarian causes. He spent time with U2 when they visited Washington DC in 2009 to play for Obama’s inauguration.
Bird is now heading up the Climb with Charlie campaign. The campaign will raise funds for charities, the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, Ending Suicide Beginning Hope, and Pieta. On April 2, Charlie Bird will climb Croagh Patrick to raise funds for the charities. Donations are being taken at climbwithcharlie.ie, and he also urges people to set up their own climbs in their local areas. The climb will be a huge challenge for Bird, and he hopes to highlight “the vast mountains so many people have to climb in their everyday lives due to severe illness, physical and mental.”
Bird is not only making the climb, he’s also sharing his new voice, cloned through new technology. It is Bird that was heard introducing the song on The Ryan Turbridy Show.
Initially when announced, the song was referred to as “Crazy Mountain” and was called by RTÉ to be a ‘brand new mix’ leaving people confused about exactly what is being released. Social media posts went further calling it “an exclusive new track from Bono”. The song was attributed to just Bono, and not U2. Bird later apologized and clarified that “the track Bono gifted me to use for climbwithcharlie is from an original U2 album. I love it and you will all hear it tomorrow on the Tubs radio show.”
