NFL Declines Bono Super Bowl Offer

RTÉ News (2004-01-14)

The National Football League in the US has turned down an offer by Bono to sing during halftime at the Super Bowl in a bid to raise AIDS awareness.

Rolling Stone reports that Bono had wanted to sing a new song, ‘An American Prayer’, with Jennifer Lopez but the NFL felt that this did not fit with the feel of the halftime show.

The magazine adds that the NFL still plans to participate in Bono’s spring visit to Africa.

Beyoncé Knowles will sing the US National Anthem at the Super Bowl, which takes place in Houston on 1 February.
