Opening Act: Pauli The PSM Lovejoy

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2023-09-23)

Pauli “The PSM” Lovejoy has been announced to be opening U2’s shows at The Sphere in Las Vegas. The announcement was made today on U2 X-Radio, by U2’s creative director Gavin Friday speaking to Jenny Huston on the station. The DJ will be taking the show ahead of U2 to spin music ahead of the main act.

Pauli is a UK based act, a drummer, musician and a model. In 2009 they started working with Gorillaz, and has played live with the Gorillaz Sound System. Most recently Pauli was part of Harry Styles’ band as a percussionist, and acting as Music Director for the Love on Tour. Gavin shares “He’s a big person. He’s got all this love, this vibe,” and called him “The Atomic MC” and suggested the girls should “bring out your UV paint!”

It is expected that Pauli will be the opening act for all 25 shows.

Gavin Friday is acting as an on-radio correspondent heading into the Las Vegas shows and will be reporting regularly with updates from the production as it nears launch.

The first show opens on September 29, and doors will open at 6:30pm. The show start is being communicated as 8:00pm by Vibee. We expect that this would the start of Pauli The PSM’s performance, and U2 will take the stage later.

Gavin called the opening act an “Ultra Violet DJ” and called it a “UV Dance Party” and suggested the main U2 show is intense on many sensory levels, and they’ve had to add some slower moments to the show to prevent sensory overload. That last part should help alleviate fears that the band is doing some sort of acoustic show. We’ve been told they’ve rehearsed very few songs in an acoustic manner. Gavin also shared the band “Sound more rock and roll than I’ve heard them in years.”

All of our Sphere updates can be found in our Show Archive as they are made. We’ll have more on the Gavin interview shortly.
