Orange Vinyl for U218 in October

Target is once again listing this item for pre-sale. The date of release is currently set to October 25, 2024.

Update (September 5, 2024):

Target has now updated the date of release on this item to be a week later, October 25, 2024. The item has also been removed from the site at this time, removing the ability to take orders. It looks as if the item was put on sale early, and there is likely a bigger announcement, beyond just Target, coming in the next few days.

Original Story (September 4, 2024):

It appears that a new pressing of U218 Singles on vinyl is on its way on coloured vinyl. Earlier today a listing popped up on Target for a “Target Exclusive” release of U218 on orange vinyl. The listing shows a release date of October 18, 2024.

The front cover includes an OBI-style overwrap showing the album is a Target exclusive and listing it as limited edition, 2LP, neon orange. The text reads “An exhilarating career retrospective highlighting 18 global hit singles including ‘One’, ‘Beautiful Day’, ‘With or Without You’, ‘Elevation’, ‘Desire’ and many more – available exclusively on neon orange vinyl. The record is being listed as “made in the USA” as well. Catalog number is 602465940633. Although listed as limited, this usually means that they will not repress the record in this colour at a later date, and the initial print runs can be quite high. This item does not appear to be numbered.

This pressing has not yet been announced so it may be possible that the record is available as an exclusive at other retailers in other countries. This has often been the case in the past for past records. (U2 generally use Target in the USA, but will often have similar exclusives at Sunrise in Canada, FNAC in Europe, and HMV in the UK for instance.)

Repressing of vinyl to keep it in print is common practice for record labels. U218 Singles has been repressed at least five times since it was originally released in 2006, but those pressings have all been in black vinyl. This new pressing is the first time the album is being pressed in a different colour. U218 Singles is one of the U2 titles that Universal Music keeps in print at all times.

War, Rattle and Hum, and All That You Leave Behind remain without coloured vinyl pressings.
