Rumour: Funko POPs in July!

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2022-02-12)

Yesterday we were able to tell you that we had been hearing from a number of retailers who are saying that they are now able to order U2 Funko Pops. We have a bit more information now to share.

Funko was founded in 1998 and has grown to a huge business licensing the rights from different franchises to produce bobbleheads which have become highly collectible. Licenses include characters from Disney, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, various figures in sports and more. Each figure features an exagerated animated head on a small body.

There will be four basic U2 Funko Pops, one for each member of the band. Each will be styled to match iconic looks from the Achtung Baby era or Zoo TV tour. These figures will be sold separate. These basic figures typically retail for $12-15 US. Although no information is present yet, fans should be keeping their eyes out for random chase variations of the figures, usually with a different finishes, different character poses, or different colours.

We are told there will be two additional Funko sets produced featuring U2.

One, will be a special Bono figure, part of a Funko Ride Deluxe set. The set will feature a different version of Bono than the standalone figure, and will come with a vehicle decorated to look like one of the Zoo TV trabants. The Funko Ride Deluxe figures typically retail from $25-30 US.

The other special figure will be an Edge figure, as part of the Pop! Albums line. This line of collectibles uses a Pop figure to recreate a primary image from an album cover. The box is oversized, and the background of hte box adds a replica of the album cover to complete the look. The album being featured is U2’s Achtung Baby and with The Edge being featured we expect this look to include the iconic rings and pants seen on the front cover of Achtung Baby. These Pop! Albums usually retail for around $25.

Other musicians featured in the Funko line include musicans such as Elvis Presley, Justin Bieber, Elton John, Snoop Dogg, Amy Winehouse, John Lennon, Johnny Cash and more. Bands such as Duran Duran, the Police, Metallica, Nirvana and more have all had Funko Pops produced.

We are told that these U2 figures should start hitting retail shops in July.

We will bring you more information when these are officially announced. The Bono image used on our social media / news pages is created by our team and is not an image of the upcoming figures.
