Rumoured Final Itinerary for The Joshua Tree Tour 2019

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2019-08-09)

It appears that U2 have been working on announcing one additional date for The Joshua Tree Tour 2019, and that date-in-progress, would be the final show of the tour if finalized. We initially told you about the possibility on July 31, but we can now share additional information.

We are told by previous reliable sources that the date they are working to confirm would be a show in Mumbai, India, and would happen the second week of December, following the recently announced show in Manila.

This show would take the number of shows on the tour up to 15 in total. This includes shows in New Zealand, Australia and Japan. The tour also takes U2 to Singapore, South Korea, The Philippines and now possibly India for the first time. U2 has not before performed in any of those four countries, although in the case of India, there have been attempts made over the years to visit, starting in 1983. A final leg of the “War Tour” planned in early 1984, would have seen U2 visit Australia, New Zealand and India, but the band went back into studio instead to start work on The Unforgettable Fire.

No additional shows are expected beyond this possible date for India. Rumoured second shows for Melbourne and Seoul, although both on early tour itineraries, were not announced, and we are told will not happen.

We are told that U2 would likely perform at the Bandra Kurla Complex. These grounds are able to be configured for different sized crowds, and have been home to a number of performances by international artists including Coldplay, Demi Lovato, Jay Z and others (80,000 attendees) as part of the Global Citizen Festival, and Ed Sheeran who performed to 11,000. The size of the planned U2 production for India is not known, but they are planning on playing venues with capacities between 30,000 (Seoul) and 60,000 (Perth) on the current tour.

For those trying to get to the final show on the tour, this has not been the first time U2 has announced another show at the end. In 2011, Pittsburgh was listed as the final show of the U2360 tour but months later was replaced with Moncton. In 2018 New York was set to end the first leg of the Experience and Innocence tour, but months later was replaced with Uncasville. And in 2017, Brussels was set to be the end of the tour for the longest time, before two additional legs were added. This doesn’t even include shows that shifted to the end of the tour in 2015 and 2018 due to circumstances out of U2’s control (Paris and Berlin.)

We would like to thank our sources who have passed this information our way. Three independent sources have shared this information to us. When and if the show is officially announced we will provide additional information on ticket sales and pre sales. Last week U2 announced an additional show for Manila, and those presales will start in early September. Many fans noted that the announcement of the Manila show did not call it the final show of the tour. Neither this show in Mumbai, nor the show in Manila were on the early itineraries for the tour, and both have just been added to the schedule recently.
