Sing 2 Soundtrack release Dec. 17, 2021 and Other Related News

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2021-10-18)

With this weekend’s confirmation that U2 will have a new song on the Sing 2 Soundtrack we’re happy to share that Universal has the soundtrack album scheduled for a December 17, 2021 release. That includes physical copies and digital copies of the album, which will be released through Universal Music. Adam Clayton confirmed on October 16, 2021, in an interview with Rocky O’Riordan on SiriusXM that the band will have a song on the soundtrack. Adam said, “Well as people probably know at this point we’ve got a new tune coming out which will be in the Sing 2 movie. Which is an odd place for a new U2 song but I think it fits really well.” Our sources at Universal have also suggested we keep an eye open for a digital single from the film in advance of the movie, and that we should see that soon, as the promotional campaign ramps up. We expect that will be the U2 song. The film itself will be released on December 23, 2021 in North America.

Roger Friedman’s Showbiz411 shared that “spies” had shared that Bono had written and recorded a new song for Sing 2 that will be submitted for Best Song at the Oscars. The Oscar submission date for the Original Song category is November 1, 2021. Expect a digital release of the song around that time, in order to prevent leaks.

In 2016, the soundtrack itself was released on December 9, 2016, while the single by Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande was released November 4, 2016. The 2016 release had a regular version and a deluxe version with 5 extra tracks. Target had an exclusive version of the regular version, which contained 2 extra tracks not available on the deluxe version.

The soundtrack itself should feature the U2 song, as well as another U2 related song and some Bono performances. Recently at Cinema Con, an extended scene was shown of porcupine Ash (Scarlett Johansson) onstage, performing U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” The scene was confirmed as being in the movie, and that a full version of the performance is in the film. It likely will be included on the soundtrack. Bono is also appearing in the film in the form of an animated lion, and clips used in trailers so far have shown Bono on stage with other characters from the film, so it is likely he will be adding vocals to other songs in the film.

For those who are watching for toys featuring Bono’s character, Clay Calloway, the first toys are starting to hit store shelves. But the toys in the first wave going to stores are all characters that are established from the first movie, and we haven’t yet seen Bono’s character pop up. We have been told that Bono’s character should be featured in a second wave of toys released closer to Christmas. Toys from TOMY include an interactive toy microphone, a line of big plush toys ranging from 10-12 inches with interactive features such as light and sound, plastic 3-inch Lil’ Singer figurines on Sparkle stages, a line of 18-inch plush toys which are exclusive to Amazon, and a smaller set of 5-inch plush toys containing three characters. The first round of toys are available for pre-order now on some toy sites. We’ll give a shout when we see any Clay Calloway toys pop up.

The first wave of toys have a release date of Monday, November 1, 2021. The first book from the film, a children’s Little Golden Book, arrives in stores on November 9, 2021.
