SPOILERS: Day Three: The Joshua Tree Tour 2019 Rehearsals
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2019-11-04)
Rehearsals continued in Auckland, NZ, for The Joshua Tree Tour 2019. Bono has been present for two days, but the rest of the band have rehearsed for three. Today was the first full rehearsal of the show in the outdoor venue, but the band has been previously rehearsing in a venue in Monaco. Not much is known about those rehearsals.
Please note that we know some of our readers are trying to avoid spoilers, and we ask that others try to help them do this by not posting song titles in comments on our social media feeds. That being said there are spoilers below for songs that were rehearsed on the second night. Look away at this point if you wish to know no more.
SPOILERS:
The band started with some rehearsals in the early part of the day before moving on to a full rehearsal.
- Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of
- Every Breaking Wave
- The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)
- Even Better Than the Real Thing
- You’re the Best Thing About Me
- Beautiful Day
- Red Hill Mining Town
“Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” has been expected by fans for a while now, as U2 are playing Sydney on the anniversary of Michael Hutchence’s death, and the song was written for him. Tonight it was performed with The Edge on vocals. “Every Breaking Wave” is being done like it was in 2015 with Bono and The Edge. “You’re the Best Thing About Me” is being performed as it was in 2018.
Then the band went into a full rehearsal for the first time. They opened with the introduction “Whole of the Moon”, a song by The Waterboys playing over the PA. The same song was used as an introduction for the 2017 tour.
The full rehearsal was as follows:
- Sunday Bloody Sunday
- New Year’s Day
- Bad
- Pride (In the Name of Love)
- Where the Streets Have No Name
- I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
- With or Without You
- Bullet the Blue Sky
- Running to Stand Still
- Red Hill Mining Town
- In God’s Country
- Trip Through Your Wires
- One Tree Hill
- Exit
- Mothers of the Disappeared
- Angel of Harlem
- Elevation
- Vertigo
- Even Better Than The Real Thing
- Every Breaking Wave
- Beautiful Day
- Ultra Violet (Light My Way)
- Love is Bigger Than Anything in its Way
The encore makes use of visuals from the 2018 performances and the songs are arranged in a similar manner to the 2018 songs. The video from the 1950s TV show Trackdown was used where a character on the show named Trump wants to build a wall. “Angel of Harlem” is introduced as the band walks back to the B-Stage after “Mothers of the Disappeared” as what they did next after The Joshua Tree.
This appears to be a full set list, and “Stuck in a Moment” and “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)” may be held for a second nights performance to allow the band to mix things up a bit.
Many thanks to Stretch, Laura, Remy and U2Start for information about this rehearsal. It is expected that rehearsals will continue daily up until the 6th, and we will report on them as information is available.
