“Staring at the Sun” Next to be Remastered
Original Story by Aaron J Sams (2024-04-18)
The next single in the 12-part series of single reissues in 2024 will be “Staring at the Sun”. It will be available in digital streaming services and online shops on Friday, April 19. The single was originally released this week in 1997. At the time it was released on CD and cassette single.
“Staring at the Sun” is the fourth single from the 90s remastered and issued in the last year. Last year the band released “Lemon” and “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)”. Two weeks ago the band reissued “Discothèque”. All three of these singles are part of the “To Love and Only Love“ playlist on Spotify. Throughout 2024 the band will be reissuing 12 singles in total, and “Staring at the Sun” is the second of these twelve singles.
These singles have not been available on most streaming services to date. U2 have slowly been working their way through their discography and cleaning up the offerings they have on streaming services, and making more material available to those who use these services. The tracks are available to subscribers of these services, as well as to non-paying customers on services such as Spotify and Google Music.

The full track listing of this new remaster is:
- “Staring at the Sun” (Studio Version / Remastered 2024) – U2 (04:39)
- “North and South of the River” (Studio / Remastered 2024) – U2 (04:38)
- “Your Blue Room” (Studio Version / Remastered 2024) – Passengers (05:28)
- “Staring at the Sun” (Monster Truck Mix / Remastered 2024) – U2 (05:08)
- “Staring at the Sun” (Sad Bastards Mix / Remastered 2024) – U2 (06:18)
These are not new remixes and new songs, all of this material was released initially in 1997 as part of the commercial single for “Staring at the Sun“. The single has been previously released digitally as part of “The Complete U2” digital box set, and a four track version of the single has been released in the past in some regions on digital store fronts and streaming services.
A surprising omission is the “Staring at the Sun” (Lab Rat Mix) which was on the original commercial single in 1997. The Lab Rat Mix was mixed by Butch Vig and Danny Saber, who also produced the Monster Truck Mix. The Sad Bastards Mix was remixed by Flood and Rob Kirwan.
These new upgrades come complete with higher resolution versions available on some services such as Tidal, Apple Music and Qobuz.
It is expected that the band will continue through the singles for Pop before moving on to “The Sweetest Thing” and the singles from All That You Can’t Leave Behind and “Electrical Storm”. We’ve taken a deeper look at what material this is likely to cover.
These releases are available worldwide. A new release of older music will be available every couple of weeks into the Fall.
