Stay Remastered and Reissued 2023

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2023-08-10)

Tomorrow, on August 11, 2023, U2 are issuing a newly remastered version of “Stay (Faraway, So Close!) to streaming sites and digital storefronts. The “Stay” EP features songs that were originally released in 1993, and the new tracks are all being labeled as having been remastered in 2023.

I’ve Got You Under My Skin (Remastered 2023) (03:32)
Lemon (Bad Yard Club Edit / Remastered 2023) (05:20)
Slow Dancing (Remastered 2023) (03:21)
Love is Blindness (Live from New York 1992) (Remastered 2023) (05:57)

This follows up the release of “Lemon” as a remastered single on July 21, 2023. That single featured four mixes of the title track, including the “Morales BYC Version Dub” (06:35), and the “Bad Yard Club Mix” (10:14). The “Bad Yard Club Edit” on the “Stay” EP is an edited of the longer mix found on the “Lemon” single.

The cover being used for the “Stay” EP is the alternate cover used for the second CD release in territories where two versions of the single were issued on CD. The singles have never been released with this cover art in North America.

U2 have been revisiting their singles on streaming / digital platforms, and updating the offerings there. A large set was done in July 2022, and “Get Out of Your Own Way” was added in September 2022. “Lemon” and “Stay” are the first two singles done since that time.

For Bono’s 60th birthday, a different digital single had been issued, featuring the title track, as well as “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” with Frank Sinatra. This two track single had been issued with the original band cover to most digital services.

The original 2-CD release featured all of the tracks included on this new version, but also included two tracks which are excluded here. Both “Lemon” (The Perfecto Mix) and “Bullet the Blue Sky” (Live from Dublin, 1993) are not part of this new digital EP.

“Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” was the only traditional single released from Zooropa worldwide. The song reached #4 in the UK charts, #5 in Canadian charts, and #61 in the USA Billboard Hot 100. The original single was released on November 22, 1993, with a second format following the next week in many countries. In North America a single CD was released, combining the two formats. Our discography entry for the original single includes more information about the release.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Zooropa album, which is being re-issued in lemon yellow vinyl this fall. That release on vinyl is also expected to be accompanied by a digital release. The release date for the newest version of the album is October 20, 2023 on some sites, and October 27 on others. We took a look at this release and other events for the 30th anniversary celebration earlier this month.

We expect further singles to be issued in the weeks ahead for the Achtung Baby singles.
