U2 In Camera Book This October

Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2025-07-22)

Kevin Davies has worked with U2 as a photographer for many years.

Over the years his work has included the photo of Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton that graced the cover of the “Mission Impossible” single. He photographed Macphisto wandering around St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican. He photographed U2 during video shoots for “The Fly” and “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)”. He was present for opening night of PopMart, photographing the concert in Las Vegas. And he traveled with the band to Sarajevo, to document the concert there. That photograph of Bono as the Fly looking into a mirror, with Macphisto staring back? That was Davies’ work.

These photographs will now be part of a new book being launched this year. The book, titled U2: In Camera 1991-1997 features the U2 photography of Davies from the 1990s. The new hardcover book is being published by Prestel, and will be published on October 7, 2025.

The press information for the book reads:

On the eve of U2’s 50th anniversary, this extraordinary compilation unveils a treasure trove of mainly previously unseen and unpublished photographs, which provide a rare perspective on the legendary band during a transformative chapter in their history.

Captured by acclaimed photographer Kevin Davies, the images document the 1990s—a period of reinvention and creative achievement for the band. Davies, who followed the group both on stage and behind the scenes, offers an intimate view of their world, revealing candid and spontaneous moments that expose the raw essence of their artistry. From Bono’s commanding presence to Larry Mullen Jr.’s focused resolve; The Edge’s boundless creativity and Adam Clayton’s calm confidence; these photographs showcase their unique personalities and shared dynamism, as they tackle groundbreaking projects and iconic tours.

Published to commemorate half a century of U2’s cultural impact, this volume honors their extraordinary legacy while illuminating a pivotal era of artistic evolution. More than a collection of photographs, it serves as a lasting chronicle of creativity, resilience, and the enduring magic of one of the most influential rock bands of all time.

The book will be 224 pages in length, and is 30cm x 24cm x 2.7cm in size (11.8” x 9.4” x 1”). Pre-orders for the book are now being taken, and it will also be available to purchase through local booksellers.

Davies’ work with U2 stretches beyond 1997. He photographed the band through the How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and No Line on the Horizon album campaigns as well, so perhaps someday there will be a second volume collecting the rest of his work.

Kevin Davies can be found on Instagram where he shares a selection of his photographs of U2, as well as other subjects.
