U2 The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 Questions and Answers

Original Story by U2Songs.Com Staff (2017-01-09)

PRESALE VERSION: UPDATES FOR JANUARY 11, 2016:

  • U2.Com should be your first source for information (U2.com help page). The team there will update tour FAQS and dates will be listed there.
  • U2.Com has a list of dates / cities / opening acts at: http://www.u2.com/tour
  • Some people had difficulties finding their way into the presales. http://www.u2.com/tour has all of the links. If you try to go through TM or other sites you may struggle. Best to find the proper link at u2.com.
  • Some people report troubles seeing Miami in the early presale. It appears to now be fixed but users are now reporting there is no option for GA being offered. If you have troubles they should be reported through U2.Com – either by using their contact info at u2.com/help.
  • Tickets for Croke Park in Dublin had two sections of GA that you could choose from in this mornings presale, Pitch 1 or Pitch 2. The floor was not split in this manner in other venues, Brussels for instance only had one option for the floor. There was also no differentiation of GA areas for the Toronto show suggesting this may be a Croke Park / Dublin option only at this time.
  • Tickets for Europe included a mix of Electronic only options (Brussels and Barcelona) and those that will be delivered. Brussels was print at home and bring the day of the concert.
  • Limited edition “collectors tickets” were available for Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Dublin. They may have been available at other venues in Europe, but we have confirmed the five listed here. See below for information on what these are. There was no option to purchase these for the Toronto show, and no one has seen them for USA shows so this is likely a European offer only and perhaps only at select shows.
Note: Some of our viewers are reporting that they have had issues with collectors tickets getting scanned properly in the past, so perhaps something to consider when making your decision.
  • The stage in Belgium is oriented differently than in other stadiums:

  • A full map of European Venues is here, no other venues seem to have the stage oriented the other way (still missing Amsterdam):

INFORMATION AS OF JANUARY 10, 2016:

Where do I find out more info about the tour?

Why The Joshua Tree?

  • There are a number of articles being written about this tour which address some of this:
  • Irish Times article by Brian Boyd
  • Rolling Stone article by Andy Greene with an interview with The Edge
  • Adam Clayton appeared on RTE with Ryan Turbridy this morning to discuss the tour. Audio available at the link. (Look for the Adam Clayton mention)

Will they play the entire album?

  • Adam said they want to play every track off of the album.
  • He said until they get it rehearsed they will not know if it is sequential or in pieces.
  • He also said “There will be other material in the show, because The Joshua Tree album was 45 minutes. I would imagine there will be some songs that existed on the Songs of Innocence show which lead us up to the Joshua Tree, and then i think that will be performed at some point in the show, and then there will be something after it to herald the future and where we are going with Songs of Experience.”

Is that all the shows?

  • That’s all the shows listed for now. But expect more to be added as tickets go on sale.
  • Most European cities were rumoured to be getting two shows, but at this time only one has been announced for each city.
  • In North America some cities may get single shows, it is expected that Vancouver for instance will be a single show in that city.
  • U2 has also announced they are playing Bonnaroo this year. That date has not been confirmed. The full Bonnaroo announcement will be Wednesday morning at 8am (Tennessee local time)

When Do Tickets Go On Sale?

  • General tickets go onsale on January 16th, 2017 for European shows.
  • General tickets go onsale on January 17th, 2017 for North American shows.
  • A Live Nation press release lists that there will be a 6 ticket limit during the public sales.

When is the Presale?

  • Presales will start on January 11, 2017 for U2.Com subscribers. A second group will likely start on January 12, 2017. See below.
  • Presales are starting at the local time in the area in which the concert is being held. So Vancouver will start at 9am Vancouver time, Toronto will start at 9am Toronto time.
  • Presales in most North American cities are listed at a 9AM start time, but the regular ticket sale is listed for a 10AM start time.
  • We have written a little guide that will let you see what time the presales are in your own local area. Click on the link and it should display the time in your own personal time zone.

What is the Presale?

  • A presale is an opportunity to buy a ticket before the general onsale.
  • There are two presale groups, “Red Hill Group” and “Wires Group”. To be in one of these groups, you have to be a paid subscriber of u2.com.
  • At this time it appears the “Red Hill Group” enters the presale first, and the “Wires Group” will enter a day later. In the past, those who have kept their subscription current have had priority access. While new subscribers, and those who let subscriptions lapse and have just resubscribed generally fall into the second group. At this point it is not known what the cut off between these groups is.
  • “Red Hill” Group is described as “Long Time Subscribers” on the u2.com site.
  • A Live Nation press release lists “There will be a 4 ticket limit for subscriber presales”.

Can I use my presale code for multiple shows?

  • According to U2.com’s FAQ section, you can use your presale code to mix n’ match shows, e.g. with a 4 ticket limit, you could buy 2 tickets for SF and 2 tickets for LA, or 1 ticket for SF, 1 for LA, 1 for Dublin and 1 for London, the allocation is fully customisable this time around.

How do I find my Presale code?

  • Go to the http://www.u2.com/tour page. Right before the dates start, you will see a “YOUR UNIQUE PRESALE ACCESS CODE IS:” followed by a string of numbers and letters.
  • Codes are now appearing on the site.
  • You can also find your code on the http://www.u2.com/profile page. It also lists on that page what group you belong to. “Red Hill” or “Wires”

Will Tickets be issued or Will it be Paperless like the last tour?

  • Live Nation has listed “In North America, all floor tickets will be paperless unless otherwise noted”. No information about Europe was provided.
  • Paperless tickets means your ticket is your credit card that you use to purchase the ticket. At the door the card you used is swiped. You do not get an actual ticket.

What are ticket Prices?

  • Ticket pricing for Canada for seats ranges from $35 – 280. General admission is expected to be $70. There will be additional processing fees on top of this.
  • Ticket pricing for USA for seats ranges from $35 – 280. General admission is expected to be $70. There will be additional processing fees on top of this.
  • One site in Europe is suggesting prices for the Croke Park shows are between 39.50 Euro and 186.00 Euro, however this is not an official announcement of pricing and may change as tickets go on sale.
Ticketmaster IE shows a price range between €76.00 – €186.00. RED Zone tickets are priced at 315EUR.
  • Ticketmaster in Belgium is the first to list pricing: Seated runs between 41.00 Euro and 181.00 Euro with four price ranges. Standing Floor are listed at 76.00 Euro (Approximately 80$ USA) (RED) Zone floors are listed at 315.00 Euro.
  • In Amsterdam prices are similar, seats 38.50 Euro – 190.00 Euro with four price ranges. Standing floor are 77.00 Euro each. (RED) Zone for Amsterdam is 318.00 Euro.
  • In Berlin prices are also similar, 46.40 -207.40 Euro for seats. Standing floors are 86.70 Euro each. (RED) Zone were mis-priced and have been taken down.
  • In London prices will range 40.30 – 187 GBP for seats. Standing floors are 78.25 GBP. No word on (RED) Zone yet.

What is the configuration for the Tour?

  • The tour will have a General Admission floor for Europe and North America. A Live Nation press release states “Tickets will be general admission on the floor and reserved seating in the stands.”
  • A special Red Zone will be to one side of the catwalk.
  • In most venues the seats directly behind the stage are greyed out, and do not appear that they will be sold. This suggests that the view may be blocked from those seats.
  • Listings for Croke Park also list “Gold Hot Tickets”, “Silver Hot Tickets” and “VIP Travel Packages” see below for more information.
  • Twickenham Stadium in London has posted a seat map including a possible layout of the stage (remember between ticket sales and the actual shows on the IE tour, this map changed somewhat last time out):

  • A seat map for Croke Park in Dublin provides additional information:

What if I have physical difficulties that limit my access to the shows?

  • In the past we’ve recommended that people facing any sort of issues, from blindness, to insulin pumps to seek information from the venue in advance of the concert. Each venue is likely to have their own individual ways to answer these questions, and different procedures and policies, so in these cases it is always best to talk to the venue direct, and in advance of buying tickets if possible.

Can everyone be on the GA Floor?

  • In Brussels, Belgium, the ticketmaster website is listing a limitation on the age of people on the floor. Under 12’s are recommended to buy a seat. Young children are NOT allowed on the standing floor, which also includes the (RED) Zone Package.
Under 16’s who prefer the standing floor, including the (RED) Zone Package, MUST be accompanied by an adult in possession of a valid ticket in the same price level. (They do not define “young”)
  • In London the GA floor is limited to persons over the age of 14.
  • In Dublin they list “No under 16’s will be allowed on the pitch unless accompanied by an adult. Standing tickets only available to persons aged 14 and over.”
