U2Songs Celebrates 30 Years
Original Story by Aaron J. Sams (2025-04-07)
Thirty years seems like yesterday but it wasn’t…
April 7, 1995 was the day I first put “Aaron’s U2 Cave” online. It has been online continuously since that time. It was a class project that grew into a lifetime hobby for me. 2025 marks 30 years since this project started. It’s also been 25 years since we registered our first domain at U2Wanderer.org, and 10 years now since we moved everything here to U2Songs.com.
Looking back at the years I’ve taken an opportunity to look back at the site. Where we started, how we got here today. I looked at some of my favourite memories through those years, and some of the unhappy ones as well. So much good though, and none of that 30 years would have been possible without the other amazing U2 fans I’ve come to know over the years. Some contribute just in passing, others have joined the team here. You’ve shared your stories, your knowledge of the band, and your connection with the band. You’ve streamed shows for us, you’ve sent in set lists, you’ve answered odd questions about what number is on the bottom of your CD. You’ve also urged us to dream bigger all of the time.
But you’ve also joined me on my own journeys and adventures. You’ve shared coffees while we wait for a show. We’ve shared rooms. You’ve visited my home, and invited me into your own. You’ve invited me to be a part of your wedding, you’ve stopped on Christmas morning to say hello. You’ve also been my sounding board on things relating to the site, and many things that don’t. I value every conversation, every offer to help.
As the band get nearer to completing a new album, and rumours start to swirl about what comes next it’s nice to have a little quiet before the storm. To friends, new and old, who have been on this journey with us since the start, or just found us more recently…
Thank you.
AJ
